There is no other city like Istanbul that lets you draw. But not only for everything of it you wish to make yours, but because you have the feeling that what happens there is unique, or because the city is always accompanying you with that presence so personal.

There is always a deep interior and authentic expression in the faces Samantha draws.

It is also because while you're drawing, people look at you with such a spontaneous and innocent curiosity that is not annoying at all. Because when you draw them, they feel it is a sign of appreciation in that you've noticed them.

Portraits by David Gonzalez and Javier Blázquez. Mosques and domestic scenes by Javier Blazquez.
Underground Cistern. Photo of Samantha. Drawings by Samantha and me at the Grand Bazaar.
After a great morning among mosques and Underground Cistern, Samantha Zaza and I meet in the Grand Bazaar, on School's first evening in the city (she's the Urban Sketchers correspondent in Istanbul) and soon we started to examine our sketchbooks. Then a little sketch.
Javier Blázquez. Istanbul-Buyucada.

Photos by Raquel and Samantha. Samantha’s drawing.
On Sunday we kept working. We depart to Buyucada to draw. Several of us started to record the journey itself. Like David G., Javier Blázquez, Raquel and Samantha.

Fatih is a photographer. He has some beautiful shots of Buyucada in Istanbul Diary blog, but on Sunday the 28th he drew as we did. Gloria also gave her best and Raquel took advantage of the huge rain to wet her sketch.

Özgul and Özlem’s daughters ran to work, once they saw us drawing. Nor Özgul or his students were left behind. Thanks for your support!

And there were also Fran and Emi on their marines and Patricia and SarahNur with these great portraits.
SarahNur fancied candy carts, as I did..

We also took our imagination with us. Portraits by David G. and Dany. Dany, Fabio and Andrea’s fantasies.

Gloria watches some pictures while the team works.
Daün is a carpenter, he is making a lamp.
Things that don't happen everywhere: that casual and easy way you meet people in Istanbul we contacted a team of photographers who were carrying out a beautiful project: yuzbinyuz that is to say “hundredfaceshoundred”. We had a good time, they photographying us while we drew them.

Antonio Gil de Carrasco Director of the Cervantes Institute in Istanbul and Ana Roca, Head of the library, receive our papers collection from Emi's hands. Sight of the street from the Institute.

We also sketched in Instituto Cervantes of Istanbul. Its Director Antonio Gil de Carrasco devoted us a generous share of his time, together with his team. The Instituto had lent us a big help to promote the drawing meeting with Turkish artists in Buyucada.
